HCG Weight Loss
Take “natural” hormone produced by the body during pregnancy – and lose a lot of weight?
That promise turned the hCG diet – named after that hormone – into a never-ending madness.
If you also continue a low-calorie diet, supporters say, hCG “can reset your metabolism” so that you lose as much as a day without feeling hungry or weak.
Here’s what science says: Any super-low-calorie diet will lead to weight loss.
Many studies have found that hCG (representing human chorionic gonadotropin) has nothing to do with it.
An hCG diet limits you to 500 calories a day for 8 weeks while taking hCG, either by getting a gun or taking a “homeopathic” product, such as oral drops, pellets, or sprays, which you can buy at the store.
None of this is FDA-approved for weight loss. The guns themselves are legal, as long as the health care provider provides them. (They are approved to treat reproductive problems.)
But hCG products available over the counter are not.
The FDA has sent warning letters to several companies that market homeopathic hCG products.
What You Can Eat What You Cannot Know
You will not eat too much. Meals allow you to eat twice a day, lunch and dinner. Each meal should include one protein, one vegetable, one bread, and one fruit.
You can cook beef or beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobsters, crabs, or shrimp as long as you do not eat visible fats. No salmon, eel, tuna, herring, or dried or salted fish are allowed.
Vegetable options include spinach, chard, chicory, beet greens, green salad, tomatoes, succulent vegetables, fennel, onions, red radishes, cucumbers, asparagus, and cabbage.
Bread can be one breadstick or one piece of melba toast.
For fruit, you can choose orange, apple, a handful of strawberries, or half a grapefruit. Food allows as much water, coffee, and tea as you want. You can also get 1 teaspoon of milk a day.
You can use it instead of sugar but not sugar to make candy drinks.
Effort Level: High
It is very difficult to stick to a strict calorie limit. Not only is it uncomfortable to live on only 500 calories a day, but it can also be dangerous.
It is impossible to meet all of your nutritional needs with so few calories.
You may not get enough protein, either. If you get less than 1,200 calories a day, it will be a challenge to get enough vitamins and minerals without supplements.
Does It Allow Food Limits or Favorites?
Vegetarians and vegans: Its followers say anyone can follow an hCG diet.
But that doesn’t mean it’s safe, especially for vegetarians.
Food creators say people who eat vegetables will need to drink malted milk to make up for the lack of protein in meat and other sources.
Because it includes milk, it is not a vegan diet.
